The events at the Ursuline School always bring in a lot of donations and make up a large part of our income. Since these events could unfortunately no longer take place since the corona pandemic, the students, teachers and parents’ representatives have become creative and have set up several fundraising events of their own. We from Momotombo would like to thank the Ursulinenschule Hersel (USH), where we have been one of the three school projects for years. Thank you very much for your commitment!
Crafting Christmas cards for charity
Lu Beckmann, teacher at USH and one of our most active supporters, tells us: Unfortunately, due to the Corona pandemic, we were unable to hold many of our regular fundraising events at school. Already before the autumn break, it became clear that the Advent bazaar, which regularly guaranteed urgently needed financial help for Momotombo e.V., would not be able to be held. Consequently, the school management drew attention to the extremely tight situation of our projects on our homepage and asked for committed support from the entire teacher, parent and student body. These appeals brought valuable donations to all three projects, especially during the Christmas season. Individual classes also became active and thought up campaigns to support us with at least a small sum. For example, the G6a sold candles for Momotombo.
I myself used the autumn break to make Christmas cards in “mass production”. The craft materials were quickly purchased, the necessary preliminary sketches and designs made and the cutting machine unpacked. In the end, there were 6 different motifs, which I produced in different quantities. So, on a table in the teachers’ room, 100 cards were for sale from mid-November. A bit slow at first, but then as Advent progressed, the stack of cards with inserts and envelopes became smaller and smaller and we were able to collect 300 Euros for Momotombo.
Surely USH will not lose sight of supporting our projects this year! As soon as attendance classes will start again also for other grades, we will hopefully be able to provide further help through many small actions.
Letter from the Ursuline School Students’ Association
we are the students’ representation (SV) of the Ursulinenschule Hersel. Last year, we looked with concern at our social projects, which include Momotombo e.V.. Corona turns the whole of Germany upside down, then our social projects can’t be any different. Normally, our school life is also characterized by fundraising activities, such as bake sales and fundraising runs. But normal was nothing last year! Even the school buildings were not really integrated into our school life. We had to make a realization that was not very nice: there were few small donations to no donations from us to our social projects.
So we took heart and set up the mask campaign. Together with a company, we developed our own school masks. A good action for both sides. The school could implement its mask duty and set a sign for its school community. We could support our social projects by donating the whole profit. Through this action we could donate 300 Euro to Momotombo e.V..
We are very proud of this result, as we were able to finance the monthly salary of one employee at Los Pipitos in León.
We wish the whole Momotombo team and the children in Nicaragua much health, strength and joy.
Your SV of the Ursuline School
No cold feet
Due to the loss of the main sources of income such as the flea market and the Advent bazaar at the Ursulinenschule Hersel, two students and the parents’ association came up with something special: So that neither the residents of Uedorf nor Momotombo e.V. get “cold feet” in winter, they distributed 100 packages with a homemade foot bath and an accompanying letter asking for donations in the mailboxes in Uedorf. Many thanks for this great effort to Monika and Sophie Lorenz and Rike Stollenwerk!!!
